English for Academic Studies

The language needed for studying in an English speaking country is quite different from other areas of English. Academic English has its own particular style, register and conventions.

We will help you thoroughly prepare for academic study at Bachelor’s or Master’s level.

IELTS (General, Academic and the new IELTS Life Skills)

IELTS is used by thousands of organisations around the world, including universities, employers, professional bodies, immigration authorities (e.g. for VISA applications) and other government agencies, as a reliable measure of a person's language ability.

Academic Module Academic IELTS is for those wishing to gain entry to further or higher educations, for example, undergraduate or postgraduate courses.
General Training General IELTS is for those wishing to go to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience, training or immigration.
Life Skills IELTS Life Skills is a test of Speaking and Listening, available at CEFR Level A1 and CEFR Level B1.
It is designed to meet the requirements of UK Visas and Immigration for certain visa categories and other immigration purposes.

Example of areas covered in live online IELTS lessons:

  • fluency and giving extended answers in the speaking test
  • linking your ideas together cohesively for the writing tasks
  • learning essential academic reading skills so that you can complete the reading paper in the time given
  • analysing and writing about factual data in writing task one
  • expressing yourself effectively and succinctly in writing task two
  • building on your general and academic vocabulary so that you can write and speak about a wide range of topics
  • increasing your grammatical range and accuracy

As with all our courses, IELTS lessons are tailored to your specific needs and at a pace you are comfortable with. We offer you the opportunity to practise the speaking exam with assessors certified by the University of Cambridge with a summary of your IELTS band achievement and detailed feedback on areas for improvement.
